GW4 Climate Alliance launches new video to showcase research expertise

To mark its official launch, the GW4 Climate Alliance has released a new video showcasing its interdisciplinary research expertise across the universities of Bath, Bristol, Cardiff and Exeter.

The video explores the causes and effects of climate change, the aims of the Alliance, and why GW4 is best placed to tackle this global crisis.

Climate change threatens every aspect of human and natural life. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has warned it is essential global warming is limited to 1.5 degrees Celsius to avoid the worst impacts.

The GW4 Climate Alliance is set to lead the regional response to the climate emergency. The Alliance seeks to build a community of climate expertise within the South West England and South Wales region and beyond, using a whole systems approach – working across different areas such as health, mobility, land use, food and energy – to find transformative solutions to the crisis.

GW4 Alliance Director Dr Joanna Jenkinson MBE said: “Our new video showcases how GW4 is uniquely placed to address the global challenge of climate change, thanks to our regional ecosystem and the complementary critical mass of expertise across our four institutions.

“The challenge of climate change is global, but solutions need to work at the local and regional level. The GW4 Climate Alliance will connect researchers with policymakers, industry and the public to influence change through long-term partnerships.”

You can watch the full video, which has been released as world leaders gather for Science and Innovation Day at COP26 in Glasgow, via the GW4 Climate Alliance YouTube channel.
