May and June have certainly been busy months for our team! Back in May, we celebrated GW4’s 10th anniversary and unveiled a new brand identity and strategic vision. The last two months have exemplified the innovative and collaborative nature of GW4, and as I reflect on my two years in this role, I am proud of our achievements and excited for what the future has to hold for us!

Highlighting our ongoing commitment to world-class innovative research, this month we announced £10 million investment for Isambard 3, a supercomputer pushing the boundaries of high-performance computing. Isambard 3 will have far-reaching implications for driving forward research in clean-energy, medicine, AI, life sciences, astrophysics and biotech. We have also announced funding for 10 new collaborative research and innovation communities covering topics including geology, public health, refugees, and LGBT rights. An additional project has also been funded, GW4 Clinical Trial IT and Data Management, further supporting our technical staff across our institutions.

In partnership with the Western Gateway, Hydrogen South West and the South Wales Industrial Cluster, GW4 led a national conference to turbocharge the development of hydrogen across the UK: ‘Hydrogen Gateway’ on 9 June 2023.  The conference had over 500 attendees and facilitated collaboration across academia, industry, and government to accelerate the UK’s transition to using green hydrogen.

Overall, the last few months have been full of celebration, innovation, and collaboration for GW4. Our new strategic vision for next five years represents our renewed commitment to GW4's mission and recognising that change doesn't happen alone.
