Directors Update:

In these uncertain times our GW4 universities are committed to leading the response against the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and providing support, both at a regional and national level.

Collaboration is at the heart of our Alliance and it has been inspiring to see so many staff and students work together, not only across GW4 but with our partners and other organisations to develop world-class research, provide vital supplies to front line workers, and share ideas and techniques.

It has been fantastic to see GW4 universities stepping up to support the fight against COVID-19. Our region is home to world-leading expertise and our universities are playing a vital role in helping the world understand more about the disease and how we can reduce its impact on our society.

We are continuing to deliver our programmes to support our research communities, doctoral students and early career researchers; and develop new collaborations at scale. Our GW4 Crucible programme, designed to develop collaborative research leaders of the future, is being delivered online for the first time. Plus, in our first ever twitter takeover, we have colleagues sharing their thoughts and insights using the hashtags #GW4Crucible and #GW4TwitterTakeover. Follow their updates and join in the discussions. To support our institutions’ pledge to the Technicians Commitment, we are delivering several schemes for our technical staff including a travel bursary and professional registration scheme. I look forward to updating you on these in the coming months.

Now more than ever, we are working hard to advance our collaborative research and innovation, and develop initiatives at scale to drive economic and social recovery and help address the global challenges we face.
