Directors Update:

It’s hard to believe it’s the end of January. While it may have been a long and wet month, we have so many new opportunities to brighten your day, I hardly know where to begin!

We continue in earnest to build our research communities with our new GW4 Generator Award and we are starting to build on our  strategic research areas of Climate and Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR). I’m excited to attend this year’s GW4 Crucible which is themed around ‘Interdisciplinary Approaches to Tackling AMR’. I look forward to meeting our 30 competitively selected research leaders of the future and finding out more about their research ideas and projects.

This month we launched our new Early Career Symposia Scheme inviting PGRs and ECRs to develop a symposium focused on one of three themes – the Creative Economy, Climate or Antimicrobial Resistance. In support of our institutions’ pledge to the Technicians Commitment, we are currently inviting applications to our new GW4 Technical Staff Travel Bursary scheme, to support and facilitate the career development of technical staff across the Alliance.

Finally, I’m pleased to say our new strategic partnership with the National Trust kicked off this week with GW4 academics and National Trust curators focusing on the theme Colonial Connections. We’ll provide more updates about this partnership over the coming months.
