GW4 NEWSLETTER January 2023

Welcome to the GW4 newsletter for January 2023: your regular digest of GW4 news, funding and development opportunities. To subscribe to the GW4 Newsletter click here.

It has been a busy start to 2023 for the GW4 team and we have lots of events and opportunities to kick start your new year.

This week we launched GW4 Connect, two new EDI programmes to support postgraduate researchers from diverse backgrounds. This pilot scheme has been carefully designed with specialist professional coaches to provide a programme of tailored peer-to-peer and wrap around support. We have a diverse and international community of postgraduate researchers across GW4 and I hope this scheme will help make a positive difference to those involved.

I’m excited to attend this year’s GW4 Crucible, starting next week, with the theme ‘Our data and digital world – opportunities for transformative interdisciplinarity’. I look forward to meeting our 30 competitively selected research leaders of the future and finding out more about their research ideas and projects.

In other news, I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate and welcome Professor Wendy Larner who has been appointed Cardiff University’s new President and Vice-Chancellor, commencing her role on 1 September 2023. We look forward to working with Professor Larner as part of the GW4 Alliance.

We have had a great response so far to the Wellcome Discovery Research Event for our region. Spaces are going fast, with the event open to researchers from different disciplines across all career stages as well as research support staff.

Finally, there is still time to apply for our GW4 Generator Fund. I'd encourage all GW4 researchers to apply for funding of up to £20K to support new, or develop existing collaborative research and innovation communities to tackle global and societal challenges.
