Queen’s Birthday Honours for scientists

The 2018 Queen’s Birthday Honours List has recognised scientists from GW4 Alliance universities for their transformative work.

Those being honoured are a professor of midwifery, a pioneer of gold catalysis, an astrophysicist and a clinical scientist.

The four are:

  • Professor Billie Hunter, School of Healthcare Sciences, Cardiff University, CBE for services to midwifery and to midwifery education in the UK and Europe. 
  • Professor Graham Hutchings, Cardiff Catalysis Institute, Cardiff University, CBE for services to chemistry and innovation.
  • Professor Haley Gomez, School of Physics and Astronomy, Cardiff University, MBE for services to astrophysics.
  • Professor Sian Ellard, Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust and University of Exeter Medical School, OBE for services to patient care.

The honours recognise the achievements of a wide range of extraordinary people across the United Kingdom.
