X-CITED Management Team
I am the Digital Junior Research Technical Professional for the X-CITED programme at the University of Exeter. My background is in health data science, and I completed my PhD at Exeter developing user-friendly machine learning tools for diabetes prediction. I’m particularly interested in applying technical skills to make complex science accessible and impactful, translating data and research into clear insights through data visualisation, web apps, and creative communication. I am also passionate about building inclusive research communities and am the founder of The Logic Lab, a health data science coding club that supports staff and postgraduate researchers in developing coding confidence.
I am the trainee RTP for mechanical testing and characterization within the X-CITED programme, based at the University of Bristol. I have only recently started working within engineering, with my area of expertise being in imaging, working mainly with CT scanning of composites, concrete and wood. Before my change of career into engineering, I worked within the equine industry where I travelled around the UK and Europe looking after world class competition horses, and their riders. Whilst doing this, I also completed a degree in Biomedical Science and a post graduate diploma in Law (because, why not?!). I’m really enjoying being very out of my comfort zone and being challenged within my new role, and look forward to collaborating with my fellow trainees.
Outside of work, I enjoy cooking (with various degrees of success!), walks with my husband, Lee, and our two golden retrievers Dug and Angus, and evenings on the couch with our five cats, Hippo, Morris, Vlad, Skibbets and Elemeno. We are currently renovating our converted chapel home, where I’m able to apply some of the skills I’m learning from my engineering role.
I am a Trainee Research Technical Professional in Electron Microscopy and Nanomaterials. Working in the Cardiff University Cardiff Catalysis Institute I will be supporting research primarily in heterogeneous catalysis using the variety of microscopes we have here (TEM, SEM and ACSTEM ) and also running reactions on the High Throughput Reactors. My background is in Heterogeneous Catalysis, and I completed my PhD here at Cardiff in 2022. Since then i worked in PET radiopharmacy until starting my new role as a trainee RTP this year. I enjoy learning new things and the training I’ve undertaken so far in this role on the advanced instrumentation has been very exciting.
