Existing GW4 research communities (i.e. communities which have received Initiator funding or have otherwise been established) are especially encouraged to apply. Applications with a focus on the Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF) or Industrial Challenge Strategy Fund (ISCF) are also encouraged.
The latest call builds on a recent review of the Building Communities Programme, which found that for every £1 GW4 spends on collaborative research communities, it captures £11.73 in external research awards.
GW4 has invested £2.37m in 74 research communities which have worked with over 140 non-academic partners to date and have produced pioneering findings. GW4 research communities have explored the causes of AMR in Thailand, produced biofuels from algae and provided evidence for self-harm intervention in schools.
This call is open now and will close on 31 May 2018. It is anticipated that decisions will be made early in July 2018, with projects expected to commence in September 2018.
