Directors Update:
This month I am delighted to announce the launch of our new GW4WARD scheme designed to enhance and drive forward the professional development of our technical staff across the Alliance. Technical staff play a critical role in helping to drive forward our research and innovation programmes which benefit the economy and society at a regional, national and international scale. All four GW4 institutions are signatories to the Technician Commitment and in keeping with this, GW4WARD aims to support all our research technical professionals to gain recognition, visibility, and career development opportunities. As part of GW4WARD we will support technical staff to become members of professional bodies and learned societies. The GW4WARD travel bursary scheme will help technical staff visit other GW4 institutions to develop networks, gain experience and develop skills. Plus we will encourage collaboration and knowledge sharing through a series of webinars with invited external speakers.
We support research talent at all levels across the Alliance, including our next generation of research leaders. So I am pleased to see the first of our GW4 Early Career Symposium events being advertised. Our two successful PGR and ECR teams are currently creating flagship symposia focusing on our priority research areas of Climate and Antimicrobial resistance (AMR). A team of PhD students from across GW4 are also working with the GW4 Water Security Alliance to lead a new conference looking at the information flow between researchers and communities. More on these events and other opportunities in this month’s newsletter!
