We received fantastic news this month, with Research England announcing multi-million-pound funding for The Bristol Digital Futures Institute at the University of Bristol and The Centre for Resilience in Environment, Water and Waste at the University of Exeter. These projects showcase our regional strengths and research excellence across the Alliance, as identified in the South West England and South East Wales Science and Innovation Audit. The GW4 region is synonymous with digital innovation and the Great West is home to more climate expertise than any other area worldwide. They also continue our funding success, following the University of Bath and Cardiff University receiving the UK Research Partnership Investment Fund for the Institute for Advanced Automotive Propulsion Systems and the Institute for Compound Semiconductors respectively.
Earlier this month we also attended a Powerhouse for the West Event in London where the Great Western Cities Commission launched a new report setting out the case for the creation of the UK’s next powerhouse. The report showcased the region’s strong connectivity, research and innovation, and economic performance. It also included several recommendations to government in order to realise the collective strength and prosperity of the region. As always, we look forward to working with our partners and neighbours to continue building on our strengths and developing opportunities.
