X-CITED Management Team
I am an NMR spectroscopist at the University of Bath, managing the Dynamic Reaction Monitoring (DReaM) Facility. For X-CITED, I am a Co-Investigor and lead on the governance of the programme. In my day-to-day role, I maintain NMR spectrometers (and other equipment), co-supervise PhD students and elucidate structures of small molecules, in addition to facilitating research by training users and working with them to plan the best experiments for their needs.
Prior to the EPSRC grant funding the DReaM Facility in 2016, I worked for the NMR team providing consultancy services to external users. I completed my PhD with Prof Simon Lewis in 2014, which focused on functionalisation of carbon-hydrogen bonds using aluminium and iridium, with lots of NMR analysis.
I manage the UKCRIC Soil-Foundation-Structure Interaction (SoFSI) and Earthquake and Large Structures (EQUALS) Laboratories in the Faculty of Science and Engineering. My role involves providing technical expertise and support to research projects, including design, project management and construction of large-scale test campaigns.
The two facilities include three seismic shaking tables, reaction walls/floor and a 4m deep soil test pit for soil-structure interaction research.
Prior to joining the University of Bristol in 2021, I held various technical roles at the University of Bath, gaining experience in soils, structural and mechanical testing.
I am the Cardiff Co-lead for the GW4 X-CITED programme. I am programme lead for the Communities of Practice (CoPs) and development of the unique training programme for RTPs. My research technical professional role at Cardiff University is within the School of Chemistry, as an Experimental Officer in High Throughput Catalyst Testing.
I am a Co-Investigator for the X-CITED programme, providing support across multiple workpackages. In my substantive role, I lead the GW4 Talent and Skills Programme, which provides sector-leading development opportunities for postgraduate researchers and early career researchers, as well as initiatives that enhance the inclusivity of our research cultures. I draw on long-standing experience in higher education and expertise in learning and development to ensure our innovative programmes meet the needs of their audiences, complement institutional provision, and respond to shifts in the national landscape. Prior to joining GW4, I worked for the University of Bristol Doctoral College as the Postgraduate Researcher Development Adviser after completing a PhD in History at the University of Bristol in 2016.
As the Exeter Co-Investigator for the GW4 X-CITED programme, I am responsible for the evaluation of the project’s impact, including that of RTPs’ access to training and professional development, the growth of peer networks and communities, and their capacity and success engaging directly with industrial partners.
At the University of Exeter, I am a Senior Research Software Engineer within the Research Software and Analytics Group. With a decade of experience in medical device software development and a background in Neuroscience, I bring valuable insights from both industry and academia to the X-CITED project.
I am the Programme Manager for X-CITED, where I oversee the successful delivery of the programme and provide strategic support to the team. With a background in project and grant management, I bring a diverse skill set to drive this ambitious initiative, ensuring key deliverables are met while managing the programme’s daily operations. Whilst I am based at the University of Bath, I collaborate closely with all GW4 institutions and the management team to ensure seamless coordination across the programme.
