GW4 awarded Technician Commitment grant

GW4 awarded Technician Commitment grant

The Fund is a competitive small grants scheme launched this year by the Gatsby charitable foundation, funding projects which support the sustainability, recognition, development, and visibility of the technical workforce. All four of the GW4 Alliance universities are signatories to the Technician Commitment; an eligibility requirement for this award.

The crucial role of technical staff within Higher Education Institutions has never been clearer than during the Covid-19 pandemic. Technical staff continued to maintain crucial facilities during lockdown and collaborated across departments and institutions to provide vital supplies to key workers and the front-line NHS staff.

This award provides a fantastic opportunity for GW4 to showcase the incredible work of our technical staff, alongside our existing GW4WARD programme which supports staff development and recognition.

The grant will be matched with Alliance funding to produce a suite of videos shining a spotlight on the rich and diverse work of technical staff across GW4. The project aims to highlight the breadth of different technical roles and their pivotal position in teaching and research activities across our GW4 universities.

The videos will be published across our internal, web and social media channels in the summer.

This project is being delivered by the GW4 Talent and Skills team, who can be contacted via talentandskills@gw4.ac.uk
