GW4 supports Technical staff professional development

Technical staff across the Alliance have been awarded funding to enhance their career and become members of professional bodies and learned societies.

GW4 received over 30 applications to the GW4 Technical Staff Professional Registration Scheme, and 26 were successfully shortlisted by the selection panel.

In line with our institutions’ pledge to the Technician Commitment, GW4 aims to support all technical staff to gain recognition, visibility and career development opportunities.

Professional registration provides Technicians public recognition for their knowledge and experience, demonstrates their fitness for leadership, and helps develop the skills and experience required to progress in their careers.

GW4 Director, Dr Sarah Perkins, said: “We had a fantastic response to our GW4 Technical Staff Professional Registration Scheme. We are committed to supporting our technical staff at all career stages. This scheme compliments a range of activities we have launched, including the technical staff bursary scheme and forms part of a new initiative we look forward to announce in the coming months.”

The successful applicants will receive funding from GW4 to cover the first year of membership fees plus support and guidance on the submission of their professional registration application. The Technicians will also be invited to a virtual networking event to elevate their visibility across our four institutions and learn more about professional registration from colleagues who have already completed the process.

Our technical staff work within a variety of disciplines. This breadth of expertise is reflected in the range of professional bodies selected for membership, including the Institute of Science and Technology, The Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining and The Association of Pharmacy Technicians UK.
