The British Academy Early Career Researcher Network South West Hub Update

The British Academy Early Career Researcher Network South West Hub Update

The British Academy and GW4 Alliance collaborate on an exciting programme of activity designed to benefit Early Career Researchers across the humanities and social sciences.

The British Academy Early Career Researcher Network South West Hub, led by the GW4 Alliance, in partnership with the Universities of Bath, Bath Spa, Bournemouth, Bristol, Cardiff, Exeter, Gloucestershire, Plymouth and UWE, is launching a new suite of activities which have been designed to support Early Career Researchers (ECRs) in the South West to build and enhance their research careers across the humanities and social sciences disciplines.

The activities, which are open to ECRN members, have a particular focus on fostering collaboration and interdisciplinary working relationships. Non-members who would like to participate are invited to do so by signing up to the Network.

The new programme includes:

EVENT: The British Academy Early Career Researcher Network South West Summit Event – 12th September 2023

The British Academy Early Career Researcher South West Hub will be holding a Summit Event on the 12th September 2023 at the Hilton Hotel in Bath.

This is an opportunity for members to reconnect with peers, reflect on the networks’ activities to date and discuss how you would like the network to develop going forward. Included in the day will be opportunities to join facilitated discussions, relevant to your areas of research, to help you form new peer connections, develop collaborative projects and get support with upcoming BA funding opportunities to get those projects started.

The event is being organised by the The British Academy’s South West Hub, in partnership with Bath Spa University and the University of Bath.

FUNDING OPPORTUNITY: The British Academy Early Career Researcher Network South West Hub Seed Funding Award - Apply by 27th September 2023

The British Academy Early Career Researcher Network (BA ECRN) South West Hub invites applications to a new Seed Funding Award Scheme for 2023-24.

The aim of the scheme is to create new cross-sector research partnerships, with funding offered to support ECR career development. These small awards, at up to a maximum of £3,000 per applicant, will support the direct costs associated with activities that support new research, the development of new stakeholder relationships, broadening knowledge of a sector, future career options or accessing resources and facilities.

This year’s award follows the success of the 2022-23 Seed Funding Scheme, which allowed 18 Early Career Researchers to develop their research, create new collaborative networks and to pursue fresh opportunities.

Some of the previous outcomes of the awards have included: ECRs enhancing commercial products through industry collaboration, forming future research proposals with peers, developing new external partnerships, and the award of a Research Fellowship.
