New GW4 £20K Funding Call for Collaborative Research

The GW4 Alliance has announced a new funding opportunity for collaborative research communities across its four universities; Bath, Bristol, Cardiff and Exeter.

The new GW4 Generator Fund offers awards of up to £20K to support both the creation of new GW4 communities and the development of the strongest ideas emerging from our existing communities.

Dr Sarah Perkins, GW4 Director said: “We are excited to launch this new award designed to support research communities of scale and capability, working together to deliver a step change in world-class research.

"Collaborative innovative research is at the heart of GW4, so I look forward to reviewing the high calibre of applications and further developing our research community.”

This is an open call and applications in all areas of research are invited. Applications from Early Career Research (ECR) communities are particularly welcome. Projects with a focus on the Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF) or the Industrial Challenge Strategy Fund (ISCF) are also encouraged but funding is not limited to addressing these initiatives.

This funding call builds on the recent announcement that GW4 has invested over £2.8m in 87 collaborative research communities, which have generated £37m in research income. Our research communities draw on complementary expertise across the universities and work with external partners to produce pioneering findings and influence policy such as the gender pay gap, exploring the causes of AMR in Thailand, regional business responses to Brexit, cancer research and mental wellbeing.

This Generator Fund replaces the previous Initiator and Accelerator Awards. Applicants can download application forms and access in-depth guidance on the GW4 webpage.
